I am Legend

So, I liked I am Legend with Will Smith (both endings), and Omega Man was okay; haven't seen the Last Man on Earth (but it's got Vincent Price, so I might have to), and I thought, 'Hey! There on the library shelf. That's the book that sparked it all.' So I picked it up and checked it out.

I am Legend by Richard Matheson. It's been an interesting journey, through depression, alcoholism, mental instability and more.

I'm a little over half way though the book, and finally starting to really get into it, when it ends. My protagonist, Robert Neville, whom I've come to care for in some strange antisocial/psychotic/gee-i-hope-he-makes-it sort of way . . . dies. And we take off on another storyline with a tall man who has preternatural aim with ping pong balls, a short man who's going home to kill his wife (after arranging her funeral with the mortician), and a killer Zuni fetish doll.

Needless to say, I was okay with the story ending on page 159. I even kind of liked the ending. Now I'm just reading to see if these strange people fit in with Neville's story in any way. Maybe they're just short stories tucked into the back of the book to fill up space and make it more 'novlish' sized.

Oh well. Onward!
